Hey all,

I have a 99 and swapped a 92/95 engibe in a while back, all 99 stuff put back on.

I'm curious as when givinging it the beans it shifts into 2 or 3rd faster than it used to, doesn't rap out as long.

Any thoughts?

Have you done the cable adjustment?

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/free-quick-fix-41821/

I would give that a go and see what happens.

Yup. Start there, and then see if there is still a problem. It's free, it's easy and quick, and it may be all you need to do.

I have done this twice since install, I'll play with it some more to see if anything changes.

Some shifting is not what ide call harsh, defintelty quicker, but not smooth as it used to be. Fluid level good, dex/merc ONLY.

TRANSMISSION CONNECTOR REFRESHING

Over near the transmission dipstick tube are 2 rather large connectors. One is black and goes to the NSS and the gray connector goes to the transmission itself

. These 2 connectors carry all the info between TPS, TCU, NSS, speed sensor, and transmission solenoids.

Unplug each one, visually inspect for corrosion or bent pins, spray them out with electrical contact cleaner and plug them back in.

Additionally, if your Jeep is an ’87 to ’90 Renix, it’s always a good idea to reach up under the glovebox area and unplug the connector to the TCU and spray it out along with the receptacle of the TCU. While you’re there, find the fuse right in that area for the TCU. Remove it and spray out it’s receptacle and clean any corrosion from the fuse.

Is it shifting at a lower rpm, or snappier/firmer? Just so we're not confusing two issues - The trans computer, based on input from the TPS controls what rpm it shifts at based on throttle position and speed. The throttle body to trans cable controls the internal pressure in the transmission and affects the firmness of the shifting. Checking the TPS sensor with a meter, checking the trans computer connectors, and adjusting the cable are all good tips since they're easy and free to do.

Snappier/firmer shifting. TPS is new mopar. I'll go through connections again to be safe.

The old cable was probably misadjusted and it's working correctly now. Sluggish shifting is harder on the tranny as the clutches slip a little longer.

Acceleration is not on point, do you guys think this could be my torque converter dying?

Shifts are still hard, tv cable adjustment twice more.

Going up hills I need to smash the pedal into the floor, like really press to get into the overdrive type gear?

One month, straight from the dealership.

Ive been getting less acceleration and 50+ I can put pedal to the floor and it doesn't rev any further.

Could this all be the torque converter crapping out?
