AW4 shifting too soon
I just swapped a 91 4.0 and AW4 into my 89 XJ. Used motor, trans, and transfer case from donor vehicle.Motor runs flawlessly, but trans shifts way too soon, and if left in drive at dead stop, will be in over drive at 10 to 15 mph. Also it will not kick down by flooring the go pedal at any speed.Am I missing a ground to the TCU? I have checked the TPS ,and fuses for power comfort switch ,also the fuse under dash on passenger side for the TCU.I would love to drive this rig, but at this point its not drivable unless shifted manually. And even then it feels like trans failure will happen soon if driven this way.Any help would be great.

Also found this write up on this site and adjusted Kick down like this.It still shifts from 1thru4 in about 50 feet.Im thinking somethings wrong with the Tcu.Should I have used the Tcu from the doner?
Okay so i'm not taking credit for this i just think its in the best interest for everyone who owns an XJ to know this. I have always disliked the way my XJ shifts from 2-3-4. It felts sloppy and had trouble down shifting on steep inclines. Well here is the solution that worked for me! It costs all of $0 and about 5 minutes including the test drive.
Here are the instruction
-Open hood while vehicle is off in park.
-Find TB
-Press and hold cable release button.
-While holding cable release button push conduit into ratcheting cable release button.
-Hold conduit in.
-Release the cable release button.
-Open TB to wide open and the button will automatically ratchet and lock into the correct place.
-Test drive!!!
I found this on one of b16a90teg's posts on NAXJA.
I know its a "write up" but i think it would have more use to people on the tech section
