You don't recommend a flush? I have read several times that a flush may not be the best thing to do?

power flush can either fix a dirty or high mile transmission, or kill it dead. The only way to find out which one you'll get is to try it.

Do 'ya feel lucky?

I had a Ranger A4LD that was starting to get sluggish shifting into reverse. I got the bright idea to have it power flushed. It didn't make it back out of the shop under it's own power.
$1,700 rebuild. (which it would have needed at some point anyway granted...but not right then and there)

A slow gentle cleaning with several successive drain/refill cycles will also clean it up without the risk.

Correct. Flush is no bueno.

Drain it. Add 3.8 quarts of fluid and run it for a few weeks and check the color/condition of the fluid. If it's dirty, do it again.

well it got a newer trans 15k ago. the trans now has 115k on it. it was put in a buddys jeep when it had 80k. so its basically had two flushs in the past 35k miles. and the fluid is not dirty or discolored. it is just past jeeps recomended change interval of 10k.

My owner's manual shows to drain and refill the auto trans every 30,000 miles.

There is a difference between a "flush" and a "drain and refill". Fluid change as specified in the manual refers to the latter.

Keep an eye on it and especially watch the fluid color. If it's begins darkening up again, do another drain and refill.
