GMC, was me I'd look for that little fiber filter deal in the center of my photo, then see if you can (gently), pull up on the line below it. If you find that's free, it goes to that metal fitting you pictured. I'd just plug it on there and zip-tie it somewhere, like Cruiser mentioned. (maybe make sure the end isn't full of stuff you don't want in your tranny!)

It was full of crud from sitting on top of trans. I ziptied it up on the trans dipstick for now. I thought it should be high up for a vent. I like the fiber filter but finding one is probably impossible. There is another vent hose like that on my front axle tube. That's laying on the inner bumper-it wasn't zip tied either.

I'm doing a transmission swap of my own and have been wondering where that breather was supposed to attach. Is it supposed to have a vent on the end of it? Like the plastic fitting on the end of the transmission breather tube? I never saw the donor where mine came from....

But I can tell you where the other end of that line terminates.....It's from your transfer case.

I think that's the TC vent. There was a poster the other day wanting to know about this. He had a scanned page from a RENIX Jeep that showed this.

Edit: Here's the thread. Looks like the pic is from a '93.

Wow-This was an old post. I just zip-tied it out of the way. 4 years later and still good. I can't keep the front diff vent hose in the differential though. It keep falling off. I wish there was a threaded fitting on that.

It was an old post, but the Bible says there is nothing new under the sun--just new to me. I found this 94 Cherokee sport w 4.0 and aw4 transmission for just a couple hundred bucks. It runs!!! Severe death wobble. I bought a complete front end for it. I saw several places moving when they shouldn't! Anyway I appreciate the quick response.
