So, I need help. I'm trying to change the fluid in my transmission (ax15). The problem is that the fill plug will not budge. I think that some one used lock tite on the threads. I just changed the fluid in my transfer case and there was blue lock tite on those threads. Any way, I can get the draing plug loose but I don't want to drain it untill I am sure I can fill it back up right away seeing as this is my daily driver. I've tried everything I can think of but it wont move at all. I need all the help I can get, so suggest away. I'm willing to try anything that wont cause any damage.

I've heard that heat should help break down the loctite. I'm going to try a soldering gun, then a heat gun, then if that doesn't work I'll try a small torch. I'm just amazed at how stuck it is. I'm afraid if I push it too hard it'll break something. Any suggestions or imput would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to pull the shifter to fill that way but couldn't get to the back two bolts. I didn't want to modify things just to get to them so I aborted that attempt. I'm at a loss. Apparently it doesn't want its fluid changed. The problem is that it needs its fluid changed.

SOAK it in PB blaster, or something stronger for as long as you can stand, or like a couple of days, and that might do the trick. also grab a torch if ones handy and hit it with some heat, and then water, sometimes the rapid succession of temperature change is sufficient enough to assist in your endeavor.

I had the same problem on mine. I ended up stripping the head so I took it to jiffylube to make it their problem. They could have done it but they couldn't find the easy out. I ended up having to drill it out. I'd recommend taking it to some lube n go shop and having them change the fluid. It's very cheap and they will also put in a new plug for free.

My dad has actually been suggesting that. I think I'm going to try some heat on it and if that doesn't work, I'll take it some where and have them deal with it

The plug started getting rounded off so I got a new one and started using vice grips on it. They wouldn't budge it at all either. Who ever put that thing in there didn't want it to come out! The strange thing is that it's the fill plug. The drain plug comes out easy.

a propane torch should release the loctite, afire extinguisher would be an excellent thing to have nearby.

You can get to those bolts. I just took my shifter out the other day to replace the bushing on the shifter end and didn't even lower the transmission; come to think of it though, I have a 1" drop on mine. If you do torch it, remember to heat the housing and not the bolt; heat expands metal. I would just move to the shifter and fill from there, that would be a real b*tch to get in there and drill that puppy out.

seriously what are you using on the plug? A socket? You should not have any problem removing that with the proper tool. A crescent wrench or vice grips is not the proper tool on an aluminum fill plug.

drive the xj and get it up to operating temp then get the gloves on and try to remove it heat does wonders

oh yeah, forgot about that. Need to make sure the tranny is warm.
