axel help...

The 8.25 was used from 91-01 in the XJ. 91-96 models have the 27 spline axle shafts, and the 97-01s have the 29 spline shafts. The 29 spline is stronger and more desirable. Some very late production 96s were equipped with the 29 spline 8.25 when the factory ran out of 27s. So in a nutshell, any 8.25 from a 91-01 XJ is a direct bolt in. Any other 8.25 from any other Chrysler vehicle will require some modification and fab work for the spring perches to be in the correct position.

Any D30 from any year XJ 84-01 will be a direct boly in swap. You have to watch out for the vacuum disconnect models that were used under "some but not all" XJs through 91. The MJ front D30 is also a direct swap. I believe the YJ Wrangler will also bolt in without mods, but someone with more knowledge will have to elaborate on that.

Do you know what rear axle you currently have? D35 or 8.25?
Nevermind, I see by your previously posted pic that it is a 8.25. You do not have ABS, the 8.25 was never equipped with that option. Only the D35 was equipped with ABS but not all of them.

You can also use this guide to determine what it "should" be in the donor vehicle.
Gearing
3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission
3.31 - only available on older (pre87?) 2 door XJs with "Fuel Economy" package
3.55 - used with 4.0L engine / automatic transmission
3.73 - found in some XJs with the towing package
4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually, and older XJs with the "Off-Highway Vehicle" package.
