Which Axle?

Which Axle?
Currently working on merging my rusted out 96 XJ with a 1990 model. I know my 96 has the Chrysler rear end, and I believe the 90 has a Dana 44.
The Dana was geared for the automatic trans so will need to be re-geared for my standard transmission.
My question is which axle is best? I have to replace one or the other as the Chrysler will new new gears as its noisy. Given the choice which is your preferred axle for the XJ.

You're gonna wanna make sure that the '90 has a Dana 44, I thought the last year the Dana 44 was available was '89 but I could be wrong. The Dana 44 will be stronger than your 27 spline 8.25. There's no need to switch gears, the 3.55 gears from the automatic will come in handy when/if you go to bigger tires because the standard gears that came with manuals were 3.07.

x2. And btw the dana44 was in 87-89 xj with tow package. C8.25 29 spline is comperable to the dana44 but the dana44 IS better than than the c8.25 27 spline. Just more aftermarket support for the dana44.

it would be ridiculous to gear down to 3.07 but if u insist on it, I do have a set of used 8.25 gears in 3.07 ratio that I can give u for free, just pay for shipping. It has 217k miles on it. Lol

Perfect, thank you. It is a C8.25 which helps make the choice easier

Well with mostly highway miles the improved MPG and quieter running would be preferable. PM sent.
