Default Axle question

Hi. I've come to the conclusion that my 98 XJ Sport has rear axle issues. Rather than screw around, I was thinking about just swapping the whole axle. According to my build sheet, I have a Chrysler Corporate 8.25 w/ 3:55 ratio. I have a lead on a CC 8.25 w/ 3:07 ratio. Can I use it? The front axle is a Dana 30 / 181mm (again....according to the build sheet).

Thanks

Not if you want to use 4 wheel drive the front and the back gear ratio has to be the same, you could change the rear axle gearing but I would try to find one with the correct gear,I did a rear axle swap on mine but it was the right gear, changing gearing is beyond my skill set right now

3.55 is the most common ratio so just keep looking and find the right one.

Thanks. I thought the rear axle was geared to the front but figured I'd ask....sux. I guess I'll keep looking.

Thanks xjmarc. That's good news as far as looking for a replacement.
