The other part that is confusing me is that when you look up axle seal on like, autozone, it says that only one is required...am I looking for the wrong part? Maybe you guys can help me with some nomenclature

Yes, on the non-disconnect Dana 30 the only "axle seal" is near the differential. The outer part that keeps debris out is called a "dust shield". See items # 23 and 24 in this diagram: http://www.4wd.com/hardparts/HP_PartList.aspx?hpDID=196

takes 2. 1 per side. The seal you were probbly looking at was for a disco housing axle where it needs one inner seal on driver side and one outer seal on passenger side in the shift housing. Non disco housings need two inner seals.
