BA10 or AX-15???
Hello and I must say what a nice forum you guys have here. I have been registered a few hours and been reading various posts since.
Tomorrow I am picking up an 89 Cherokee 4x4, 4.0 with the 5 speed.
I thought I saw somewhere that a way to tell what transmission it's going to have without seeing it is by the production date.
This one has a date of 5/89 which would be a pretty late 89.
Fingers crossed it's got the ax-15.
Does anyone know for sure or is it a crapshoot, even with production date considered?
Thanks in advance!

I guess I'll just have to peek under it and see if it's got the split case or not when I go pick it up tomorrow.

Man, judging from that monstrosity of a mount for the ba/10 they spared no expense to make that transmission that was never intended for this application, fit this application.

Dont let the lack of a Ax tranny make your decision. I ran one for 16 years never had any complaints only reason I dont now is a nv3550 came my way I could not let get away. So I upgraded.

I picked it up yesterday. It's got the ax trans. Thing runs and drives awesome. It was a one owner, some really old guy who lives on an island, Lopez Island to be exact.
Let me tell you, one owner does not mean well maintained! lol This guy jerry rigged and half assed EVERYTHING as it failed over it's lifetime.
The bright side is the drivetrain feels very solid, the body is relatively straight and unmolested and the interior is actually in pretty good shape except the head liner.
My first objective, fix that god awful fuse box. It's a disaster.
