Default back hatch rattle

My back hatch has started to rattle something awful when driving down the road. I see there are two rubber stops. Do these wear out? I'm assuming so just like most rubber bushings. Also, what about the latch itself? Anyone had trouble with theirs? To the point the hatch rattles? I'll take any suggestions.

Yes, the rubber snubbers do wear out. EZ fix.

Yea, the spray, the ointment, even pills, and I still have hatch rattle. See how deep the groove is, from where the latch hit's the pin. You can turn the pin 180* to present a fresh side. Also that pin is adjustable. You can loosen the torx there and tap it in, (L&R also).

New gasket, changed stoppers, changed pin's, even changed the mechanism at some point. Might be better or I just got use to it. 13 years of washboard has caused the rear 1/2 of my Jeep to start crumbling. Cracks outside of the hatch hinges, and even top rear of the passengers door-frame. Parked right, my hatch will hit the tale-light. (no wonder the ointment didn't work)

No, Sir! What exactly is the "hatch panel"?

When my hatch was rattling ... I adjusted the latch striker (on the body) some and stopped it. The striker is likely getting worn.

I had a couple of loose bits floating around inside the rear hatch. I took off the rear hatch cover and vacuumed out the inside, rattle fixed.

When you open the back hatch, its the plastic panel that covers the inside of the rear hatch. Open your rear hatch and tap the panel to see if it rattles.I Almost guarantee it does

I had a full size spare in back, it pushed the striker out when I stopped. It rattled like crazy. Adjusted it and it's fine.

the rear hatch panel is the inside or interior of the rear hatch itself. It is held on by a few screws, once removed you can access the inner workings of the hatch door itself. That is how you would access the rear locking mechanism and rear wiper assembly.

Anyways, some times small fragments come loose from the manufacturer inside the door the older the vehicle gets. Also, a previous owner may have been in there and broken something in there.

Just an Idea!

Good idea! But this rattle is like the hatch just isn't snug. Like there is play when the hatch is closed

I folded up paper and made them into little wedges. Most likely temporary but it does the job for now

If you can't fix it with a hammer and duct tape then its not broken
