Default Bad Day, Sye install

So installed the sye, pain in the arsse, so after im done i walk to the back of my jeep and pull out the front ds i scored for 5 bucks. Guess what too short. It was from an auto. Guess 7.5 inches is too much. Ugh. Anyone know if the speedo gear thing is important on the sye? I'm thinking about taking the rear down to 5 inches for now i dont want to buy a driveshaft now, or pay for a extended one.

the speedo gear recalibrates your speedometer with bigger tires. if you can figure out how much its off by you'll just have to watch your speed, or keep getting tickets. try searching junkyards for a front ds that would fit, theyre usually not too expensive.

I didnt install the blue plastic thing the speedo runs on. And What front ds would work, they front ds off an auto was suppose to fit, but its too short by 2 inches when its fully extended.

As FLAXJ said, the ZJ shaft should work. Here's more info from when I did mine with an AX-15:

Dont get me wrong it would bolt up, but its too short with the slip yoke fully extended to meet both the yoke and axle

Drop it down. Especially with 31s!

My stock auto XJ front shaft works with my 5.75"ish lift out back.

The manual XJ front shaft is shorter. 90s model ZJ shafts were longer by 1-2" depending on TC, engine and tranny. My front shaft is a ZJ one and its about 1" longer than stock.

Did you happen to shim the rear pinion angle up? That would buy you some length. I'm only guessing but I bet you need a 5 to 8 degree shim in there. Maybe someone else can get you closer on that one...

I am running a front driveshaft on mine with 3.5" of lift. I haven't picked up my shims yet.
Did you install the big lock rings in the slots on either side of where the blue gear would go had you installed it?

Mike
