Since it makes this noise when you are parked and idling you should get your ears to the underneath of the vehicle and try to hear exactly where it is coming from. From there, you will find out atleast what component is making the noise and limit your troubleshooting steps to where the problem is.
My transfer case was making noise cus its fluid had leaked out the worn seal. When I replaced the seal and filled it back up it quieted down. I worry that it may have worn a bit by having too low fluid for a while but it now seems to work just fine.
The torque converter is about 18" ahead of the t-case, separated by the transmission. If you have your eyes and ears aimed at it from the underneath, you will be able to know which part is making the noise.
Cruiser54 calls it 'noggin'-pokin'...and it seems like some folks would rather write in forums about their issues rather than crawl under their vehicles for 30 seconds to find out directly...as though our ESP is more powerful than your own ears aimed at your own car.

Check your exhaust and see how close it is to the cross member there. I have seen the down pipe rattle against the cross memeber when in park and under acceleration due to weak engine mounts that have sagged low enough to allow this. You may even be able to see marks showing you where it is hitting on the exhaust tube. If you suspesct this might be the casue, you can have your dad sit in it while its in gear and hold teh brake while you check for the flex. You will be surprised how much the exhaust moves when the vehicle goes from park to drive and under acceleration.
Best of luck.

I'm 31 years old and work just like everyone else I am doing everything people have suggested.the exhaust is not the problem.its the torque converter.the test that was suggested to see if the torque converter was bad I did that and the results were bad.so I am replacing it.
