Gonna try this fix this weekend. Glad i stumbled across this thread. I've been dealing with the same problem since I bought my jeep.

there are so many xjs with this problem and all they need is a 10 cent piece of plastic it's actually pretty funny

All these years, I thought I was going slightly mad. My 1999 Cherokee Sport has been slowly killing off passenger side windows. First, the rear pass window stopped working. It's actually open a crack, it froze that way a couple years ago. Then my front pass window would intermittently go down, but not up. Then one day it just stopped worked at all. The driver's side windows work fine. I notice driving at night that sometimes the lighting in the window control console will completely blink out which leads me to believe there was a short to trace... Thanks for posting the info about the harnesses, time to do some digging!

 

yeah mine worked once in a while and when they were not I noticed the light is the switch was off

when the windows were working (with the light on as well) I tested the window lock switch and it turned the light in the switch off

so that proved it right there...havent had a problem since

 

Wire tap worked for mine! Thx oggy!

 

And you do this on the side of the connector that is closer to the drivers side door or does it matter? Also, does it matter which wire the metal flap closes down on?

Sorry if I missed these questions in your description. I'm not an electrical guy and want to make sure I do it right.

If that doesn't work you may have to replace the main window switch on the drivers door, got a new one on ebay for about $60.

 

Don't do it on the black wire, just the other two, like pics show.

And the metal flap connects to both the wires that you slide into the wire tap, creating a bridge between the 2

 

If you guys want to have the switch still work, you can fix it! I fixed mine last night and now the lock switch works and the passenger window switches work like they did new.

I wrote up a how-to in the tech section. As of right now it's still in the submission area, until it gets moved to its final home. I'll try to remember to post a link when it gets moved.

 

Can your fix still be done if the wire tap mod has already been done?

 

The wire tap mod bypasses the switch completely, so if you want the switch to work, you would have to undo the wire tap to have the current flow through the switch.
