Default Ball Joint Question.

So I need to replace my ball joints, upper and lower. I decided to go with Yukon Gear and Axle just because they're available.

Installing the lower went fine but I've stopped with one side complete because I noticed after installation that the upper ball joint has a lot of up/down play in it. Like nearly half an inch. Visual inspection seems normal and I haven't yet greased these things. Lower has no play at all. Installation of both went quite smoothly so I can't imagine how I might have screwed this thing up.

Regardless, noticing this made me nervous so I pulled the other one out of its packaging and it has zero play up/down.

Are these things supposed to have nearly half an inch of up/down or did I somehow break this thing? Also, recommendations for a replacement would be appreciated if that is necessary, I need this thing up and running by Monday morning.

Yes, the upper is supposed to move up and down. The other one will once you install it and start tightening on the nut...

Thank you much for the rapid reply. I will now, calm down, no longer fight the urge to panic and go get another one, and go do the other side.

Good to know. The ones I took out were deeeestroyed but this is the first ball joint job I've actually done by myself and the difference kinda freaked me out since I've never noticed it before when assisting other people. I also know exactly nothing about Yukon lol.

I'll go ahead and grease them then.

Thanks again.
