Yah - I'd been asked about the idea before, I just needed to determine a practical limit for the cabling. 150A works out neatly - handles most of the upgrades without too much trouble (unless you get something exotic - and therefore spendy!)

RE: Battery cables and fault code #P1594
Here is a sad but true tale. In October of 2011 the error code #1594 (check gauges light) kept coming on. So I ask my trusted mechanic of a ten years what could be the problem he did his diagnoses and said it was the alternator. So new alt. Three months later up pops the #P1594. So I go back he says it is the computer. So beings I wanted a second opinion I went to a different reliable mechanic. After $150.00 spent on diagnosis he says it's the computer. So new computer. Guess what the P1594 is still there. So the new guy goes through all sorts of tests says it could be that the alternator is the wrong size. He replaces that. Now here is the fun part. After all of this the P1594 is still there. So he just happens to check the battery cable and finds that there is quite a bit of corrosion going down the cable....guess what no #P1594. So the moral to this story is if when you get the dreaded #P1594 and your mechanic says you need a new alternator or computer tell him to check the battery cables. Please pass this on and save the next sucker the expense and aggravation I went through. God I hate these modern cars and all of this computer stuff.

The computer will tell you what system has the problem, but it won't positively identify the problem for you. You still have to do some thinking.
Unfortunately, the training that modern mechs are getting is to let the computer do the thinking for you, instead of taking it as a guideline and doing some thinking on your own. When you get a CEL/MIL on a particular system, check the whole system before you start replacing things!
I came up under points & condensers, so I'm still used to doing my own thinking.
