Yes. Those originals are in bad shape. Corrosion has wicked up the cable. Don't bother trying to clean it up. Just replace the cables. A little upgrade in the size wouldn't hurt. Don't get ridiculous like some do and use OO welding cable. That's just a waste of time and money.

Ask an electrical engineer about dielectric grease, you'll get a different story than you're getting here. It's fine for your car's various push-on connections. In fact its GOOD. It's recommended for headlight and bulb sockets, for example.

Yes it's an insulator. Push on connections displace it to a very fine film to the point where it does not inhibit the flow of current.

It's a GOOD thing.

For the battery terminals, the spray on corrosion inhibitor is a better choice.

Not sure what kind of electrical engineer you're referring to. Anybody worth their salt will tell you that packing a non-smooth mating surface with an insulative substance will increase that connections' overall resistance and reduce that connection's ability to handle current. I don't care what it says on the back of the Permatex box.

Dielectric grease CAN be better than using absolutely nothing at all IF it's applied extremely sparsely. However, it is not intended for such an application. There are specific products for this purpose, many are petroleum or silicone greases with metal particle suspension. My favorite is SanChem's NO-OX-ID Special A Electrical grade. This stuff is industry standard in electrical and telecommunications industries with popularity in the radio and marine crowds. I have used it to restore function to corroded connections where dielectric grease was previously preventing any meaningful current flow.

If you want to sound compelling try some facts instead of formatting.

Hmmm. Maybe the kind that understand electricity at more than a high school level?

The information is readily available for any who wants to look for it.
