Bed liner exterior instead of paint?

First Jeep is so sexy! seen on a few months ago on online and ever since then i have wanted to do one like that. Been looking for more info on doing it. Wanted to do myself to make it more affordable. I have read its not very hard but hearing negative things about it, like fades very quick and adds a lot of weight to truck. Any of this true from people that have it? any information on this would be great and thanks.

Everyone always asks me about the weight, I really don't get how people can say it adds too much weight. It took me 3 gallons to do the entire XJ. I don't know how much a gallon of that stuff weighs but I can assure you it's under 20lbs. 20 x 3 = 60lbs and that's estimating high. A gallon of gas weighs 6.2lbs, so around 124lbs per tank. I hardly see how 60lbs spread over the entire vehicle will make any difference.
edit:
Just looked up the shipping weight of the 1 gallon kit, 10.4lbs. So actual weight of mine is a little over 30lbs.

Use a scrub brush and degreaser to clean it. Then rattle can it your color of choice. Give it a good 3 - 4 coats, filling in the little crevices and dimples makes cleaning it a breeze.

No, I would do a rattle can job and just keep a few extra cans around to fix any damage. It took me 3 gallons of herculiner at $75 a gallon and a good 20 hours of work. I can prep and rattle can it in 6 hours for less than $75.

I lost control on ice a 180'd my precious xj to a pole right down the center of the tail gate. hitch bent down, taking the frame rails with it, thus totaling my jeep. I bought it back from insurance company and used the left over money to straighten frame, by a used tailgate, and buy the bumper/tire swing I wanted. The hatch was white how ever, so I used truck bed liner.
