I've never seen this, did it come from the factory that way for some Jeeps? I found the dumb one that installs on top of the handbrake but it makes the handbrake very difficult to operate and sucks at holding anything. I feel like there's enough space next to the transmission selector to fit some cup holders and still have more passenger space. I'm going to try making a new center console out of fiberglass.

I believe that it was an optional extra, correct me if I'm wrong. If you take a look at your center console, where it's mounted in the picture you'll see 2 slots in the top black plastic about a half inch long and they are the mounting points for it. Also in between the slots on the lower plastic, there's a small perch so to say where the holder also sits against.

here it is at quadratic. Summit also has it, that’s where I got mine. You’ll definitely want to add some screws to it for stability or it will fall right off when you put a drink in it.

I would love to figure out some sort of "ghost lighting" for the cupholders in both my WJ and my XJ because when driving down the road at night, it's sometimes difficult to find the holder with my coffee cup. I thought about running a small LED off the trans shifter lighting circuit, but haven't addressed it yet. I wonder if just drilling a couple of small holes in the side of the cupholder, there would be enough spillover from the shifter light to work. Maybe not because I think the shifter area is boxed in to locate it. Maybe I'll look at a console in the JY that's already been removed....

It looks like the type for breaking windows in emergency.

Yes, and quite popular today. It has a carbide point that easily shatters side glass to gain entry to a vehicle in an accident. Some even have a flashing LED light in the end of the handle and a seat belt cutter.
