I've asked this before and never got much of a response. I had a 71 Torino with lifter noise when I was a kid and just replaced the pivot under the rockers. No more tick. Would that work on a jeep? They are $1.29 each, so it would be a cheap trick if it worked. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...945_0194797594
I still might try this, I have to replace the valve cover gasket anyhow

It will work if that's where the wear is. Unlikely. More likely a sticky lifter.

Go with seafoam. Man, I just registered, so I could post it. I put a can of seafoam in the tank, every other fill up. I also run it into the throttle body , put 6oz in the crank case before every oil change.
Its the only thing I have ever used, where I have seen results. From getting rid of check engine light from dirty O2 censor to getting rid of knocks..
I love it.

I'm gonna be doing my valve cover gasket soon. Would you guys recommend pouring seafoam over everything then follow it with clean oil, ATF, or something like that?

If the 5 40 is diesel oil I would just let the detergents do your cleaning which they will do. My engine is sparkling when I dropped my pan and that was after a 6 k interval with rotellA t6 after neglected maintinence from previos owner. But seafoam works wonders just drive it for a day with it in your oil because it lowers the viscosity like tranny fluid does but idling it in your driveway for 15 minutes wont do anything..

Its weird seeing anyone here even mention Lucas garbage, especially after seeing some tests on bobistheoilguy.com...let's just say if you like excessive amounts of foam, give Lucas a try!

I don't like Lucas products at all personally. I'm always nervous about oil additives and stuff but I did a couple hours of research on marvel mystery oil and I didn't find a single complaint about it other than a few people saying it didn't do anything. Out of 2 hours of reading reviews in it I found probably 5-10 people who said it didn't do anything, everybody else was raving about it. I decided to try it... first in my tractor though. I noticed immediately that it idled much smoother and the idles accelerated much faster. Tried it next in my Jeep and I don't have a single complaint about it. I've been running it for four years now and swear by it.

ive never used lucas in the oil, just the upper cylinder lube fuel treatment stuff, I KNOW 100% that stuff helps. personally yeah regular oil additives are not necessary and even bad just a flush every-once in awhile

When I first got my Jeep, the rear main leaked like crazy. And dumb me decided to try and look for something to slow the leak. And I found the Lucas oil stop leak and decided to try it. I did this before doing any sort of research. Well, needless to say, I was an idiot and when I finally got around to biting the bullet and actually changing the seal and changing the oil, when I drained the oil, it was nice and bubbly and foamy. That's when I decided to never touch Lucas ever again
