Best place to buy a pcm?
Hey fellow jeepers. I need a pcm for my 98 xj cherokee with 4.0 straight 6 cylinder. The auto electric guy says he thinks he can get one for $500-$700. I searched on O'Reilly's website and they had one pre programmed for $200 but they call it an ECM? The auto electric guy said the cheaper ones are garbage but they all seem to be refurbished no matter where I get one. What do you guys think? Is an ecm the same part as pcm? Where would you get a pcm? Thanks for any tips.🙏🏻

If you're sure you need one
If you're sure you need one, I got my rebuilt unit from Computer Exchange, my rebuilt PCM cost only $219: https://carcomputerexchange.com/?cam...kaAtNNEALw_wcB
It's still doing its thing years later! - good luck

Thanks. I'm going on what the auto electrical guy is telling me. My e fan comes on when you turn on the ac but not when coolant temps reach 218f . He tested resistance on the coolant temp sensor and verified the signal was reaching the pcm. Is there something else I should check before I buy one? Thanks for the help.🙏🏻

This is the Big Picture
As you can see, the information from the Coolant temp sensor feeds directly into the ECU, Assuming your electrical tech checked all wiring and relays, then he may be right - in any case, exchanging your 26 year old unit has few downsides for a couple of C notes. I exchanged mine to improve transmission performance.Electronics next to that hot strait old 6 have a hard life.

Sending your PCM/ECM off to a repair place is a good solution. They diagnose what the problem is...repair it if they can, and send it back....or tell you it can't be repaired and offer a replacement if they have one available......really a win win....Flagship One is wanting $1200 or so for a replacement.....

The flagship one site says they have one programmed to my vin for $289? Is that for real? And is flagship a good company? I was leaning in that direction.
