Default best year 4.0

I like the motor so much in my cherokee, that I want to swap one into my cj. What year motor should I look for. Want efi and a 5 spd.

Might as well keep it AMC in a CJ! In my humble opinion, if you want the fancy PCM do it right and use OBD-II. But thats a pain. And, don't quote me on this, but methinks the Renix system responds better to modifications. Toss a 4.2 crank and rods in there with a later head (I think a bit better flow?), bored TB, header (plus of the later head) an somewhere in there you'll end up with an EGR delete and a nice bump in power. AX-15 will handle it just fine

I actually agree with salad. That's what I would do. Get an 87 to 90 Renix. 89 or 90 and it could come with the AX15 trans, too.
