i would just love to see a true dyno test with before and after runs, where the ONLY variable is the intake manifold.

Been asked a million times... mechanical and style wise the 99 wins... already has the intake manifold and better exhaust manifold... interiors as good as 00-01 but doesn't share the 0331 head... find it in a 2 door 5 speed black and you'll have my favorit prime Cherokee...

Been dyno tested before and after... huge write up on it... Google it... thinking it was 26% over older style...

If that were the case, wouldn't u think Jeep would have advertised the '99 model with a new and improved 239hp 4.0L??????

Not 26% horsepower... think it was air volume... so no... they did it because of the emissions changes that killed power starting that year... the intake was to make back up some of it...

So pre '99 is best due to less power killing emissions?

Always seeing posts saying want more power ('01 down), never see a post saying want more interior upgrades.

Sure the newer ones have a little more power, and the fancy interior. Guess thats fine if your a mall crawler. Me I like to wheel mine, just as much mud on the inside as the outside. But to be honest everybody is gonna say the best years are within the range of the years they own.
Mine has the "fancy interior" and I have just as much mud on the inside as I do on the outside and I could care less. It depends on how much the person cares about keeping things clean or not. I used to keep my interior clean, but decided I didn't care. There are plenty of people that have a mall crawler in the old body style...

I have had a '88, '89, and '99 and everything is by far better with the newer model. And I agree with the '97-99 being the best range and 1999 being the best year. And that is from personal experience, not just because it's the within the range I own.

Oh really? Must have missed the 97+ center console swap... zj and 97+ seats swap... 97+ overhead with speaker bar swap... 97+ black solid plastic door panels swap... 97+ dash swap.... 97+ overhead console swap...

This is why I say 99 is the more desirable... for more reasons then power...

This is not my opinion this is everyone's opinions I have read over the long time I have been here... I myself just bought a 95 and is my only xj... but some of these mods I may do myself if I get a deal on parts... the intake... 703 injectors and bored throttlebody will happen for sure though... made a huge difference on my 89 with a 96 hybrid motor swap I had...
