Alright long story short. I just got paid by geico cause my exploder sport trac was stolen Dec.4 (thank god) and after I put a $2200 trans in it in june. DOH! I'm lucky that I have my 94 xj the wifey drove the exploder. I got 7300 burning a hole in my pocket. I have a friend with a 2000 classic and its had tons of electrical and cooling system troubles. I would buy another 94 but I like the modern interior a little better. I'm thinking a nice and real clean 1998. So fire it at me, I need some opinions.

My favs are the 91 and 92 Laredos...I've had 2 91's one 92 and just like the niceties, power windows & doors, overhead console with temp and compass, cruise, etc...I currently have a 95 Sport and my wife has an 01 Sport, both are 2 doors & 4X4. The wife's is loaded with all the power stuff, but we both prefer the older ones. The 01 has been nothing but a money pit, had to rebuild the front diff, new radiator and heater core (lotsa $$$!) and it cosntantly runs rough and throws codes that even the dealer says aren't right...Older ones for me, cheap and easier to work on...

Oh really? Must have missed the 97+ center console swap... zj and 97+ seats swap... 97+ overhead with speaker bar swap... 97+ black solid plastic door panels swap... 97+ dash swap.... 97+ overhead console swap...
This is why I say 99 is the more desirable... for more reasons then power...
This is not my opinion this is everyone's opinions I have read over the long time I have been here... I myself just bought a 95 and is my only xj... but some of these mods I may do myself if I get a deal on parts... the intake... 703 injectors and bored throttlebody will happen for sure though... made a huge difference on my 89 with a 96 hybrid motor swap I had...

because the olympics were in GA?
lol... actually im not sure why 96's and 89's are everywhere and seem to be the most XJ's made... but i havent seen the numbers myself... if 96 is the most selling then thats probly because they were the most made... and i would guess that would be because they were planning to change them in 97 and had to sell so many to make whatever money back from what was spent on the equipment to make the first body style... really i have no idea... just talkin out my butt on that one... lol... ive got two 97+ cherokees in my local JY now and one has the fancy dark brown leather interior... if it doesnt get raped before i get to it then it all gonna become mine including the slanted speaker bar and headliner... my headliners all fallen... and im doing the 97+ conversion on it... i wanted a 97+ XJ but im a 2 door guy and i couldnt find one in my price range... $500 for a 95 and a 97+ front clip i already had makes for one cheap 97+ xj... lol

Yeah, I know, but I usually pay like a grand for an XJ with close to 200K on it and I usually get about 350K with virtually no $$. Then we pay 3 grand for a low mile 01 and do nothing but spend money on it...Yeah, probably just a lemony one, but 5 great old ones, then one new one that just sucks money...You should hear my wife "We paid 3 f'in thousand dollars for it, we shouldn't be smelling antifreeze and leaking oil!"

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to have to rebuild the front diff with just a tad over 100K on an XJ that was a one female owner Jeep that has never seen the off road...It also runs rough when we start it after it's been driven for a while and throws a code of "#5 spark plug wire bad", then the check engine light comes on and I have to take the battery cable off to get the light to shut off. I've taken it to the dealer and even they shrug their shoulders and don't know why it does that, seeing how it doesn't even have spark plug wires...Oh well, now that I've replaced just about everything, maybe it'll last us for a while, but I'd sell it way before I'd sell my 285K 95...

ive heard the 99's to be the best years because they upgraded the uni-body to be stronger. also i was told that the motor has less vibration due to internal parts being better. But i have owned 2 95's cherk. one 2wd and other 4x4. 4x4 with abs and hp30 and d35 rear. it has the 99 intake mod on it. pushing 140,000 still strong.
