OK so a little update... I was able to clean up the surface more. I didn't realize from the other photo that that was the old gasket so it looks much better now.
So I do have a few more questions before putting everything back together.
Should I use shellac on the fel pro gasket or just trust that the sealant that comes on the gasket will do the trick? I was thinking about putting it on the pump side and using the pre-installed sealant on the block side.
I purchased a new inlet tube and have a few concerns about the installation. Should I install this before installing the water pump? I tried to do it without installing it but I think I will need it installed to be able to torque it down. My only concern with that is having enough room to torque it down once the water pump is installed.
