Default Black Box?

Anyone know what this is? I currently have a no crank no start issue. When turning the key to start, this box makes a click noise. When you flip the switch on the box and turn the key, it doesn't click. My jeep ran fine and had no issues. One night I went out to it and BAM, no crank! I'm just curious what this could be. A few of the wires go right into the main harness like it came factory. It is a 90 cherokee laredo 4.0 4wd.

Thanks!

Not factory. Could it be an aftermarket alarm system? If it was hosed, that could also create your no-start.

yeah i don't know the heck it is. Before I purchased it, someone had tried to break in to and they stuck a screw driver in the ignition cyl and damaged it. Instead of spending the 13 bucks on a new ign cyl, the previous owner wired in a push button to start it. What a clown! Anyways, I also noticed when I shift into reverse with the key on there are no reverse lights, so I'm going to clean up the NSS. But I did buy a new ignition cyl and will tackle that too. The things people do!

It looks like it's riveted in and most people don't bother to do that with aftermarket stuff. I will be installing my new off road lights (thanks again Santa Claus) on my '92 Laredo and will look to see if it has one and if so will try to figure out what it is.

Oh, and while you have the cylinder out be sure to tighten and locktight the 3 bolts that secure your tilt steering. Not saying that's the problem but it might save you some aggevation further down the line.

Actually it was just screwed in with sheet metal screws. I just removed it. It was aftermarket, I traced the wiring and found where it was tied in using butt connectors. I also removed the NSS to clean it out and started disassembling my steering column...found out that I don't have a steering wheel puller :/. I'll run to Autozone and rent it. While removing the push button start, I also found wires jumped between fuses to keep the dash lights on. What drives people to do this?!?!? GRRRRRRRRR!

Nope my '92 doesn't have it. Might be a kill switch for anti theft. Don't forget you will need a lock plate tool too.
