White smoke (from the exhaust, I'm assuming) is either water (cracked head or blown head gasket) or oil in the cylinder (probably rings are shot).

well wen i drained a little bit of oil i didnt see any signs of coolant in the oil but my radiator fluid is disgusting and needs flushed anyway from just sitting
the guy i got it from never drove it and said that it never blew white smoke out of the exhaust wen he did drive it and the last place it was at was network off road and they let it still there for an hour an a half running and im sure they would of noticed it smoking and told my him

It will run amazing for quite some time. It may also be a intake manifold gasket, oil leaking in and burning. I'm just saying rings worst case scenario. always prepare for the worst...

Also, anyone can say anything. Without paperwork, you can't be sure. Not trying to say the seller is lying, but you should play it as if it never was rebuilt if there isn't any proof. My wife blew my head on my 96 with 170k and my dad was surprised the compression is if the Jeep was new!
