Which is a better performance value for my 1996 XJ in California? A '99+ exhaust manifold or an eBay header? It's either one or the other, right? You can't use both at the same time? And how difficult is it to do in your driveway? Thanks.

Guess I'm one of the few folks here that like the FlowMaster.
I've got a 40 on mine and had this header:

This is what it used to sound like:

I love my flowmaster 40, still want it louder though....
But back to the cold-air intakes....a while back I saw pictures of someones design that had been done nicely, and even had a smaller cone filter for one of the air lines(not sure what you'd call it, if anyone understood what I'm saying)

First I could not find the writeup for the cold air intake mod, just a box and IMT mod and a TJ horn mod...
I buy the cheapo 20 buck cherrybomb turbo mufflers, they have highflow and sound decent, but I'm not in it for the sound I just got tired of buying more expensive mufflers when they got tour up offroading or rusting. I use them and they work great.
for intakes I took my entire box out and cut all the sides of the bottom half off accept for the side facing the engine and the corners, so that hold up the top of the box and filter. It is now wide open to get air from anywhere and when water comes in if flows right under the filter so it doesn't get sloshed up and into the filter box then into the intake. with this mod I have literally drove through water that was cresting at the top of the hood but not completely over it and never had an issue while others in my group flooded. I don't have pics but I can snap some if the idea is confusing. BTW this does nothing for HP or sound, but helps with water and some cooler air.
