Happy new year to you also. Check www.RockAuto.com for a fuel pump. I know they have the bosch for my 2000 XJ. As for the cheapest place to get one, i'm not sure.

RockAuto is great, I buy there for both of my jeeps. It gets expensive on shipping if your parts ship from multiple warehouses, but overall they're still quite a bit less than most local shops and they stock just about everything

Its pointless to take down the tank and drain the tank and not replace the whole assembly. Id be pissed if If I did that and my gauge goes bad a month later. I beleive pump and strainer on rock auto is around 90-100 bucks. 50 bucks more can save yourself some time and hassel

97 and newer cherokee have a fuel pump assemble thats in the tank, so dropping the tank , you mine as well replace the whole assembly. As much as I would love to suppoer vendors, If I can save 20 bucks on a part, Im going to do it. Bosch fuel pumps are over 300bucks for the 97 and newer xj's. Rock auto is 350.00, amazon is 250.00. But luckily I onlu paid 150.00 for my Carter Fuel Pump Assembly. She fires up so easy, even when its 0* out. which it was the other night.

Yes, that'd be worth the extra for the convenience, at least for me.

so save that $100+ and put it elsewhere; I've had too many of these out to count, and if I can get a pump alone and the gauge still works, thats all I change; and can't remember the last one I had to "redo".
and that filter/regulator; look on Feebay and youll see em from $35 to well over $100; same brand same part number; there is NO DIFFERENCE between them other than the price; these guys are counting on you thinking "more expensive so must be better"; but most certainly not the case. theres a place that advertises from Calif. that seems to be the most reasonable; I have ordered a few of these from that outfit;
Long crank times but starts and runs fine once they do start, usually this piece is the problem. This is the "fuel filter" AND the regulator in one; when that problem starts the regulator part is whats bad but being a sealed part, well you know. but it too is definitely replaceable seperate from the module.

not really; $71 for the pump and strainer then go on Ebay and get the filter/regulator on top of the module; $106 vs $250+.... no brainer. change whats needed; that tank is easy esp if its been out before; XJs arent nearly as known for gas gauge problems as some, notably Dakotas, (even though strangely its amlost the exact same assembly>> the "pump" is the same!)
