Brake inquiry...
new owner of a 2001 XJ.. prox 101,000 miles... brought it home yesterday so i have no clue about the repair history.. I bought it from a dealership... theyre clueless. I noticed today that my front brakes are squeling a bit, the pads need to be replaced. the odd thing is when i begin to press the brake pedal it starts out fine no issues, then after a second or so the brakes get soft then i hear a soft thump.. the car stops fine, its just a little nerve racking....
thanks for keepin this great forum.. its my first XJ

might be a broken brake pad shifting around in the caliper. change the pads and check out what the old ones look like first, and make sure the caliper is working correctly.
if the brakes still are acting up after doing the front, check the drums.
