Measure the pad by thickness, and feel it to figure out what material? What different types of pads are there
There ceramic, semi metallic, organic, and metallic.
Organics are dusty and don't last as long. Ceramics are very little dust but they cause more wear on the rotor. And metallic are noise, cause lots of wear on rotors and about the same amount of dust as the semi.
I've always used semi metallic pads on everything I got and have had no problems, but I also just don't do pad slaps either having the rotor resurfaced or even new rotor with a new set of pads is always your best bet.
You don't really have to even measure the pads its either goin to have enough or not, because eventually if you have about half your goin to have to do them again soon. Also matters on how you drive too.

I didn't find anything abnormal about my pads or rotors. Pads have over half life still. Rotor is smooth.

Pictures? Hard, soft or normal pedal? Master cylinder full? Booster good? Good vac to booster? More details needed.

Also Im not sure if this had been mentioned that if the breaks are to old or have been heated up to much they cook and become rock like

Are you sure its in the front brakes and not the rear drums because Rusty rear drums and old hardware can cause exactly that. mine does the same thing after any heavy rain I don't really notice after car wash. try pulling the rear drums off moving all the hardware making sure everything's moving around. And grind down the rust ridge along the inner edge. If its definetly in the front they may just be poor quality brakes in which case you may just need to replace them.

Well, recently the brake shop I went to screwed up and didn't get my rear left brake line in the drum right and it leaked out all of my brake fluid it was everywhere down there, but they said they cleaned it all up for me.
