Broken coolant fitting! Need unknown part Info...
ok, so i hope this is how I post a question on here...
I have a 2000 XJ and was removing the heater core hoses to make some more room near the coil pack to change my plugs... One of the hoses was melded onto a very rusted fitting (the larger L shaped one below the thermostat). While trying to remove the hose the fitting broke and a coolant began pouring to the floor, so I let that finish and removed the rest of the fitting by breaking it off (all rusted. must have been coolant slowly leaking from there causing this).
So my main questions are: Is whats involved with removing the remainder of the fitting and replacing it? and what is the replacement part called?? I assume it goes to the water pump somehow.

WATERPUMP BY-PASS TUBE
from the post above
i just had to exchange mine from the old water pump to the new one, I did not want any risk of leak so I use teflon tape on the thread going to the water pump.

1st off, '97 up XJs do not have heater control valves as the Factory eliminated them.
Depending on where the tube broke off, u may need to remove the water pump to get what's left, out.
5 years ago I stole this idea from a post by a member here or one of the other XJ forums. It's a 3/8" MNPT X 5/8" hose barb brass nipple available at any hardware store and most auto parts stores. The brass will never rust/corrode. U will need a longer 5/8" heater hose.

I guess anything is possible.....seems like the top rad hose is way more susceptible to belt contact than the heater hose. Who knows what all can happen if the belt breaks.....that's why u replace the belt ever so often. I call it preventative maintenance. 5 years later, it's still workin' fine.

I don't think its a huge risk, just added risk. Its a really small risk with the stock XJ routing, but pretty big risk with ZJ 4.0 since the belt and pulley run right in front of the tube.

Thanks for all the info... I figured I could just use a shorter pipe with a longer hose. I found the replacement pipe on quadratec.com for 10.99... though I like the idea of not having to remove the water pump to do it (DIY with the shorter fitting from Hware store).
only problem is getting to the store! Ha!
thanks again,
Dan

^^^^X2........very good, sound advice. The XJ cooling system has got to be one of the cheapest to replace (<$250 in parts) and can almost be done blindfolded (if the motor is cold).
