broken headlamp in need of replacement
There is a playground next door at the church and the kids are always throwing rocks and stones. They hit my jeep, for the 3rd time, and broke the passenger headlamp. I was just gonna get a regular sylvania headlamp from advance but wanted to see if they were any good first. I could simply upgrade to better lights since the factory ones suck but the kid's father has agreed to pay and fix it so it looks like i will just go with the regular oem replacement. Are they good?

They're about as good as it gets with OEM XJ lighting, which as we all know is sub-par. If he's buying, just get the Sylvanias, unless you think you can convince him that they're the 6054 Bi-Xenon/H3 headlamps, which cost about $900.

Now True that would be cheating and just wrong. But you are gonna get the best sealed beams from Sylvania Silverstars. JMHO.

The father has returned my email and agreed to pick up a replacement light for me and drop it off here. That was nice. It probably will be silvania from advance since he's from around here too and that store is right down the road.

I would take it back to Advance and replace both with silverstars. You will like the better light they put out. I ran them for years. I have H4 replacements now and love them more than the silverstars I got the ones similar to IPF's.

Whowey have you seen a study comparing the two because I have not and this is news to me. I have a set that was replaced that were over four years old and a buddy broke one with a baseball while I was out of town so he replaced both of mine with a set like alien has suggested and they lasted through two trail runs before I shattered one with a tree branch. And am now back to Silverstars and the current ones are almost two years old.

No, I have never seen a study comparing the two styles, only personal experience.
I had two sets of Silverstars that each lasted almost exactly a year.
But the caveat being both sets went out in the coldest part of the winter. I do not know whether the cold(sub-zero daytime highs) had anything to do with it, but I switched back to a standard halogen headlamp and this current set has been in service for over two years. I loved the lumens and look of the light from the SilverStars. My wife liked them so much, she got a set of the SilverStar bulbs for the ZJ. And she now wants a set for the van.
