broken into 6 times!!!
My boss just gave me his old '92 Sport and after only one week it was broken into. Lost an iPod, Bluetooth, stereo, a couple of other things, and I had to replace a smashed window. He says that when he had it, it was broken into 5 times!
Any advice on theft deterents? Alarms, security boxes, clubs and such?

Get the new Viper 5900 system (think that is it) it runs about 200. Has remote start, keyless entry. And a 2 way remote that will vibrate/beep it the warning buzzer/alarm goes off. Im saving money for mine now......Get one. In the mean time take expensive things out of site or completly out of the vehicle when parked.......Its a shame that we have to deal with F in Theves............After both my mustang were broken into and parts stolen off one totaling 2K im geting alarms for all my stuff. My .40 cal is always arms reach away from me........

Go to your local sign/graphics company & have them print up some fancy alarm warning stickers. We used to get them at radio shack.
but really, Don't leave stuff in plain sight. Maybe A lockbox of some sort. sounds like you live in a scary place

Get a decent alarm and a good reliable gun.
Nothing deters thieves more than the sight of an angry owner with a gun

My jeep actually has a few live shotgun and .357 rounds kicking around in the tray under the E-Brake handle from old shooting trips. probably works just as good as an empty gun rack!
Unless the thieves think that they are gong to get free guns by breaking in but knock on wood nobody has broken in yet........
On the topic of alarms...my jeep has some kind of flat key with electrical connectors on it hanging under the dash on the left side. IT has 4 or so wires coming out of the socket but after some testing with my multimeter i found 2 that i could twist together to bypass it, but if those wires are hooked back up normally the jeep will not start without this odd flat key inserted into its socket.
Is this some kind of stock theft system or an aftermarket device?

I was gonna say a gun IN a gun rack but considering where it sounds like this guy lives that'd be asking for more trouble.
And yeah I think a few .357 rounds would deter the average thief.
"Where there's ammo, there's probably a gun totin' person close by."
IMO it sounds like a homebrew job. The average thief will mess with the column and if he can't do that quickly and start it he'll give up.

Ahh... Thank You!
That key was rather annoying as i would hit it with my leg getting out and then get back in and wonder why it would not start. Even worse when it fell outside of the jeep and i was worried it would strand me if that key fell down into a drain grate or something in a parking lot!

never leave anything of value in your car. besides that not much you can do honestly, nobody pays attention to alarms anymore. I take my radio face in with me at night and just leave the doors unlocked. Keeps them from breaking the window to find out nothing is in there

This is true. Think about it. If you hear an alarm you think nothing of it at all. It's so common to hear one going off nowadays. Plus if the guy wants to get into your vehicle no alarm or starter kill system is going to stop them.
You need those anti-carjacking flamethrowers that they came up with in south Africa. Now that is a theft deterrent when you get bbq'd!

I'd love to plant a trap and leave some flashy expensive looking phone or something from the dollar store and relay a simple message..
