Default Broken power steering nipple.

I was removing the Steering gear. When I took the hoses off the nipple on the power steering reservoir broke off. I'm on a tight budget. How do I remove the power steering pump to change the reservoir?

Remove the serpentine belt. Disconnect threaded high pressure line from steering pump, and proceed to remove the three bolts holding the pump into the intake manifold. As for removing the reservoir, there are two metal clips that hold the reservoir on the pump, one on top and bottom you can't miss them. Both have a metal tab with a rectangular square cut in the center. That tab has to be pried UP with a flat head screwdriver, enough so it clears the power steering pump. When you see it's lifted enough, hold it, and at the same time use a small hammer to tap the clip off. For reference, if the whole assembly was still in the vehicle the clips slide off going back, like toward the fire wall. Then do the same for the other clip, and the reservoir will pull off the pump.

It's highly recommended to replace the whole pump and reservoir if you do not have experience with removing and replacing the reservoir. It's very easy to make a mistake in doing so and damage the parts. Also, it's hard to ensure that you're going to get a proper seal on the connection. Most people have it leak at a pretty bad rate.

If money permits at all, I would recommend doing the whole thing and save yourself some heartache and even some time in the future while you have everything off.

If not, I wish you the best of luck and the steps provided above are pretty solid.

What are you going to mess up by replacing the resi? There's 2 clips and a o-ring.

That's where I got mine when the exact same thing happened to mine. I've read you can install a, I believe WJ if not ZJ, power steering pump and it makes power steering "easier." But if you just going for the fix I say get the reservoir.

Could I possibly just thread a nipple into it?
