is the corporate 8.25 a limited slip rear differential.....any good?

LSD is optional in the 8.25 & the D35. It performs just as well as any LSD. I had it in the 8.25 in my Dakota. Worked pretty well in sand and not too bad in mud. Doesn't get you out of the deep stuff, but once your axle's sunk, it's sunk either well. I wouldn't trust LSD on rocks though regardless.

thanks Bass, the cherokee is new to me and don't know a lot about it yet. although I haven't come across any big test yet, it does seems to play well in the sand so far. I had an 87 CJ7 years ago that had manual trans and font manual locking hubs that seemed to easily walk through anything around here, the xj probably will too even if it is more of a "gentleman's" 4wd. Padre Island is a ways off from civilization, things can get hairy pretty quick. I hope I will be able to depend on my xj to get me home.

Oh fore sure. LSD is definitely better than open diff. It depends on a few things. If it's already equipped with LSD, run it for a while and see how you like it. If it's not, cheapest and best option is a lunchbox locker like Aussie, Powertrax, or Lockrite. BEST option would be a selectable like ARB air locker, OX Locker, or the Auburn ECTED electronic locker. The last three are quite a bit more expensive, but you can keep your open diff for on-road driving and tighter turn radius and then fully lock the rear on a switch for true posi-lock.
