Default Burning coolant smell.

Well, my XJ is about 10,000 miles away from 200k. Yeah I know not even broken in yet. Anyways I have been getting this smell of burning coolant lately and have checked the coolant level and it seems it be staying at the normal level. Also checked the oil and there seems to be no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant. I havent lost any power or anything like that but cant figure out why I have the smell of coolant burning. I dont have any leaks from what I can see. Has anyone had this problem before and if so what is the cause of this. I have been planning on buying a new radiator, water pump, thermostat, and hoses but I want to make sure before I do that, that this isnt a bigger problem. Thanks.

I had this on my powerstroke a while back. and it ended up being a loose hose clamp and cracked hose. Inspect your hoses and your thermostat housing, it could be a really small drip that is just evaporating on the hot motor.

I had a coolant smell and it turned out to be the gasket for the thermostat housing. looked like it was seeping through the gasket. changed it and smell was gone. good luck

Alright, thanks guys for the advice. Like I said I am planning on doing a whole bunch of stuff to the coolant system. I guess I am going to have to start getting the hoses, water pump, thermostat and I think I am going to go with a 3 core radiator. Thanks again guys.
