oops, lol, yeah that'd have been bad. I think it was a typo on my part, I had my girlfriend getting grumpy waiting for me to go out while I was reading the forums, and I typed too fast.
Thanks very much for making sure I didn't screw up. I'm a novice enough that it's definitely better safe than sorry

Stupid question of the day
Can you pour the coolant down in the motor through the coolant temperature sending unit when you take it out to to burp the system, or do you just put it through the fill tank?

Just pour it in through the regular fill point, and you'll be okeh.
(And, be patient when you're waiting for an answer. If you don't get one right away, that's because someone who can answer the question probably doesn't know you've asked yet... )

Well, this advice worked great. A completely new cooling system in my old 1990 Cherokee + this advice on burping the closed system has left me with a VERY cool engine... no longer 225* running temperature.

Thermostat holes?
fantic, will the fluid continually flow past the t-stat through these drilled holes, after the air is purged? I'm wondering if the valve will ever function in this case, it seems like it's almost the same thing as not having a t-stat installed, or am I just confus-ed.

Yes, yes yes that's why i made only two TINY holes... some t valves come stock with holes in it and have a little metal thingy that closes the holes when the fluid flows through it.

Thank you for the response and great info. Regarding that HondaRepairs pic of the t-stat with pierced earrings, if there is a t-stat like that made for the Jeep 4.0 L6 can you tell me who makes it?
I drilled the holes in my t-stat much bigger than 1/16", so I am wondering now if I should install it(haven't gotten to that step yet).
Here's my t-stat, had one of the guys in our machine shop drill the holes for me, they are about the size of a BB(a little smaller), are these too big?
Also, notice the 54mm stamped on the rim. I have seen other pics of stats on this site showing 63MM. Mine is a Stant SuperStat #45359 195*, it's listed in the book for my Jeep. I'm wondering why there's such big difference in the diameter.

I think you drilled the holes too much to the ouside, that's the place where the thermo sits between the block and housing, anyway if air goes through it's ok.
I don't know if there is one with "piercings" specifically for the jeep but basically you can put in every thermostat that has the same diameter and temp range that fits in the housing.
You could easily fabricate those piercings with some nails, using the nail head on one side and pressing the other end to keep it from falling out.
