If it's otherwise in nice shape, been well maintained and you're getting a good deal, I wouldn't let that stop me. I'd rather scavenge a FPR from a salvage yard somewhere than deal with terminal rust (did you check the floorpans, spring shackle mounts and general underside?), cracked heads, poor maintenance, previous owners who Bubba'd the thing etc.. those things can make for a real nightmare.
The FPR doesn't keep me awake at night, You just need to know it might be a scavenger hunt if you ever DO need one.

Heck, if you determine this XJ has the in-tank regulator, find one out of a salvage 96 XJ with terminal body damage, put it on the shelf and you're covered.

Absolutely agree with this. Pretty much everything but the unibody can be changed and a gem is a gem. If need be it shouldn't be hard to find a rusted out donor that had whatever might need replacing.

I haven't ruled it out completely because like you said, a gem is a gem. If everything is how he says it is, she'll be parked out in my driveway come Friday. If everything the current owner says is true, it seems pretty decent and probably hasn't been beat on. It has 149,xxx miles and it's bone stock. Right down to the puny tires and all 7 inches of ground clearance. Which is good because that tells me it probably hasn't been though moab. It's missing the carpet though, but that just means that I don't have to rip it out when I get it home lol. Plus I can see if there is any rust on that floor board pretty easily.

I took the carpet out of my 91 with plans of rhino lining it but never got around to it. The fact that I could stick my finger through the floor as played a small part in why I took the carpet out too though

Thanks for all the help guys, I ended up buying that XJ I went and looked at Friday. He was asking $2400 for it, I got him down to $1900 so it wasn't a bad buy at all.

Absolutely no rust, almost brand new tires, and a couple cheap fixes need. Nothing major. I am already looking for a decent lift kit and trying to get a bumper built in my head lol.

Here she sits (sorry for the bad quality, it was dark)..
