Default C 8.25 Lunchbox locker?

ok i got a 95 xj with a c8.25 in the rear. i know that those up to 97 have 27 splines. i saw a little while ago that Aussie makes a lunch box locker for the 97 and up 8.25 and they have 29 splines. i was wondering if i got a 97 up LB locker that has 29 spl. and just get some Superior 29 spl axle shaft would that be good enough or am i missing a lot more

on a side note, whats the advantage of having reverse cut ring and pinion gear set for the D30?

You'd need to change the carrier as well as the 29 spline axle is larger then the 27.

Really just grab a 29 spline axle from the junkyard and swap it or find a 27 spline locker.

like so > http://www.quadratec.com/products/16104_110.htm

I thought the carriers were the same. You're gutting the carrier of it's splined gears and replacing with locker gears. I think 29 spline axles, a 29 spline locker and you're good to go.

This is the info I was given before I found a deal on an 8.8 rear end. Try searching, but I think you just need axles.

thats what i thought cuz you have to remove the spider gears anyway and just get 29 spline shafts and be good to go

I have a no-slip in my 01 XJ, and I love it. Never had any problems, and works exactly how it is supposed to.

carriers are the same. if you have a 27 spline just swap out the shafts and install your 29 spline locker to match up with your 29 spline shafts and you're fine.

Are you sure about that? I thought you had to get a selectable locker that changed the carrier in order to swap the shafts for larger 29-spline. I'm fairly certain the carrier for the 27-spline is different than that of the 29-spline. He's talking about a lunchbox locker that does not replace the carrier, only the spiders.

Can someone who has done this confirm either way? I'm going to want to do this also in the future.

Also, OP, all 1984-1999 XJ D30's use reverse cut gears since they have a High-Pinion D30. 2000-2001 are standard cut due to having a low-pinion D30.
They are NOT interchangeable. You must use reverse cut for a HP D30, standard cut for a LP D30.
