If it's a 4.0 they make a delete idler for it that just bolts in the same place as the compressor I'm sure all the parts stores can get it I got mine at oreileys I thin it was like 30 bucks and it uses the original belt

so theres no way to just get a shorter belt and just bypass the compressor pulley as well as the idler? the shorter the belt the better IMO

There's actually different belt routing diagrams for a non-a/c application depending on whether or not you have "maximum cooling" option or not. The best thing I could offer is to head to the local parts store and ask for a belt for a non- a/c truck, and see if they have a routing diagram to determine which is right for your truck. From what it looks like on my screen, the maximum cooling option has an idler pulley in place of the compressor, like pip-Clark mentioned.

Pip is right. There is no way to put on a shorter belt to bypass the a/c compressor and still have the pulleys turn the correct direction. You need to get an idler/bypass pulley to put in the place of the compressor, and use the same belt.

So, how would replacing an ac compressor with a pulley be beneficial? Doesn't a compressor act as a pulley if the ac isn't on anyway?

I cant see any advantage in removing the A/C comp.. If you dont use your A/C it is a very easy project to turn your A/C Comp. into onboard air. Just a thought!

Yea if u got time, id turn it into an on boar air compressor. But its less work in the motor to spin the bypass pully then an ac pump. U still use ur ac pump even when ur defrosters are on. Just to throw that out there.

if you don't want it to run when the defroster is on just pull the plug on the low pressure switch.

I'm thinking of doing this, as the a/c system was savaged by the previous owner and won't be worth rebuilding. I ordered the 98 a/c delete pulley off Rock Auto, but the picture on the website must be generic as I don't see how it will bolt up.

Anybody got pics of this installed?
