Default A/C help

Ok heres the deal, I dont think my compressor is even kicking on. Which leads me to believe that its a low pressure switch, witch i can pick up for like 15 bucks. I know where the sensor is (i think its on top of the black cylinder lookin thing haha) but when i replace it will i look all the pressure in the system? do i need to put some kind of sealer on the new sensor? any tips would be great.

you should be able to change it with out loosing any refigerent. it has an o-ring under it. so you may want to change it as well just for insurance. you should see the clutch turn when the engine is running and the a/c is turned on. if not then something is keeping it from coming on. perhaps the low pressure switch you talked about. you need to know is the system is charged and you may want to test the low pressure switch before you spend the money on something that may not fix your problem.

if the system is charged then you should have 0 ohms of resistence across the two terminals. you will of course need a multimeter to check this. if the switch is bad then the meter will read "OL" (on mine it means open lead) are you sure you have enough freon in it? if not then the switch WILL show an open circuit. to make sure, use a jumper wire and connect the terminals in the plug going to the low pressure switch. if the compressor comes on than one of two things are wrong. the switch is working and your system is discharged or the switch is bad and the system is fine and only needs the low pressure switch to fix it.

the plug that goes to the low pressure switch will have two wire in it. use a short piece of wire and put it in the plug connecting the two wires. if the compressor comes on then you know you have one of the two problems mensioned before. dont leave the "jumper" in if the compressor comes on. if it is low on freon then you will destroy the compressor. this is only to test it.

well...i did the jumper thing today and the compressor kicked on. So i went and orderd a replacment and i install it. It sounded like it was leaking pressure so i tightned a tad more, and POP there goes the threds (why make plastic anythin?) so now its either low freon or a bad switch, or both. any ideas on what to do next?

Could a bad high pressure switch give the same symptoms?

Also, where did you get your LP switch?

did you check the pressure with a gauge before doing any of this? cause having a really under charged a/c wont make the compressor kick on and off itll just stay off slightly under charged will make it kick on and off rapidly.
