I tried running my XJ’s compressor with the low pressure sensor jumped. I had my kid turn the **** to “A/C” for three seconds while I watched the compressor clutch. Nothing moved on the compressor, but at least my E-fan kicked on. Should three seconds be enough time?
Is there anything else for me to look at, or am I buying a new compressor? Thanks.

My compressor kicked on pretty much right away when I jumped the switch.Did you try jumping the compressor directly to the battery? That's what I'd do next - you could have a problem downstream.

I checked the fuses and found a missing relay that the lid had labeled “A/C Compressor Clutch” - I guess the PO pulled the relay when he yanked out the entire condenser.
With a new relay in there and the low pressure switch jumped, my compressor clutch kicked in right away. So now it looks like I’ll be grabbing a new seal kit, PAG oil, and receiver, put everything back together, and then hit up Autozone for the pump and gauge rental.
Thanks for the help!

You may find it difficult to find a good rental for the gauges and pump. If you print up a couple %20 off coupons and hit up Harbor Freight you can get a set of gauges and the pump for just a bit more than $100.
In one of these threads there is a recommendation for the kit from Amazon that runs about $150 and the person recommending it is a highly knowledgeable and trusted member of the forum (jordan96xj).
I was hoping to use the air compressor pump (which was like $16 at Harbor Freight) but my compressor wasn't strong enough to run it - you need something close to 5 CFM at 90 psi and my compressor was only 3 something CFM at 90.
The little 2.5 cfm vacuum pump worked beautifully to vacuum it down to -30.
