I understand that the compressor won't turn on if there's no pressure in the system; I had that issue last year, took it to a shop, they lubricated the system and filled it with Freon, it stopped blowing cold a few months later so they replaced the line ports and recharged it. In both cases they told me I didn't have any leaks, and I haven't used it since until about a week ago. I tried putting one of those recharge kit gages on it but either the gage is broken/clogged or I truly have 0 psi in my A/C system.

Thanks!

Also, last year I was able to find a very detailed DIY thread that walked through a bunch of troubleshooting steps on this forum, now I can't seem to find it with either the search function or in google. Any ideas?
Of course you had leaks. That's why the Freon leaked out. When the Freon leaks out, it stops blowing cold. When it stops blowing cold, you get hot. When you get hot, you spend money at the shop to get it cold again. When you spend money at the shop, they get richer. Don't spend money at the shop to help them get richer until somebody finds the leak.

I wonder if they teach that in A/C Tech School?
Funny thing, i bought the jeep from my mom, and she had two or three recent receipts for evac and recharge, and pressure switches each receipt totaling over $200. In the end the fix was free! I believe that there is a how-to somewhere on here about the clutch clearance --checking with a feeler gauge.

You can't check the clutch air gap using a feeler gauge on '97-'01 AC compressors (OEM 55037205/Sanden 709), because the clutch plate is recessed below the pulley top surface. Earlier compressors you can check it using a feeler gauge.

There's a youtube vid that shows how the later air gap is checked, using a special press and depth gauge.
