The DMV just told me I have to get the XJ smogged before I can register it. When I bought the 95 XJ the previous owner had installed a cold air system and aftermarket catback exhaust. Am I going to have problems smogging it? They are supposedly CA legal upgrades, but CA smog laws are a nightmare!

 

If those things have a C.A.R.B. stamp w/ number on them. Shows they're cali legal. If its K&N or AEM intake, usually they're cali legal and there will still be a CARB sticker on it tho

 

The cat back system is OK You can do just about anything behind the cat.

The air intake might be a problem. Ask them to take a quick look and offer an opinion on whether or not they will accept it or not. If they don't, go to the pick and pull and get a stock air box and put it on just for the smog and then change it back.

both and 4.3L xj are correct. speaking from experience with having failed the visual smog inspection before, you will need a to show that the after market intake has a C.A.R.B. sticker. you shouldn't have a problem with the cat back exhaust.
