Cam Position Sensor

I have an 89 cherokee 4.0 5 speed. What does the cam position sensor do?

Controls the timing of fuel injectors, among other things.

Do you have symptoms that make you suspect that yours is faulty?

My distributor has an oily substance inside. I have a no start condition. I do not have spark. I have had the coil and icm checked and they check good but I do not have spark at the spark plugs or coil. I have changed the CPS. I have injector pulse and fuel at the rail. See picture. Thanks

The cam sensor can fail in a certain way that inhibits spark. Not common, but I've seen it.

Because of that, I would test your cam sensor. You'll need a meter and a manual with the procedure.
