I did this conversion to my 93. It was a piece of cake. I changed the front fenders and inner fender wells/header panel ***'y/bumper mounts, bumpers and endcaps/fender flares. You dont have to change the doors, as the only thing different is the mirrors/trim and door handles. The only thing that would be really difficult to change is the hatch as they mounts for the hinges are internal on the 97 & up XJ's.
