Anything but.
I'm sorry I deleted the pics from when I decided to reseal the engine (valve cover, oil filter area, oil pain, front main). The motor had 243,000 when I decided to do that ....
Clean as a whistle and could still see the original crosshatch. No bearing wear either (pulled of of the mains to see what it looked like).

Found a few pictures from when I did the oil pump at 243,000
The oil pan gives you an idea of how clean the inside of the engine was. Unfortunately, I don't have the pictures of the valve train to show you how clean it was.
Those are the factory bearings with 243+ on them .... I have a camshaft shot as well ... but there isn't much to see with it either.
And the last shot just shows the overall cleanliness of the bottom half of the engine at 1/4 million miles.
For anyone that asks ... the motor "died" at 276K. Some nitwit pushed the motor a little too hard and cracked the # 6 piston. Even with the factory rev-limiter (5000 rpm) ... a motor that old doesn't like 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear wind-outs when an angry driver is doing it.
And an underside shot of the head (first time head was ever off this block). Very clean ..... not much build up at all for the miles.
* sigh *

the every 3000 mile deal was conceived by the quick lube shops
7 to 12k is all you need on a good running engine
3k is a little over kill but if you have the money go for it
I judge by what the oil looks like on the dip stick
when it stops looking like new oil it gets changed

My Stang calls out every 5k with semi-synth oil. I change all my vehicles every 5k regardless of full synth or semi. Full synth can last longer, but it is easier for me to remember to change every 5k on the odo.

every 24K would be about once every 3 years for me... I just cannot get my head around that.
my jeep does city driving, only on the highway to get to the trails. I do oil filter every 3k. it's cheap, it takes me half an hour and it makes me feel good and the oil that comes out it black as soot... no signs of brown, let alone clean.
My WJ see's the highway for about 80% of it's miles, and is a pavement queen. I run synthetic in it and change it out between 5000. When the oil comes out of it it too is black as soot.
I am no expert on... well pretty much anything, I'm simply adding my observations.

Had a 2002 gmc sierra 5.3 ltr that I put close to 80k miles a year on. On regular oil non synthetic I would change the oil every 5k miles. when I was laid off the truck had over 300 on the meter and I only had it for two and a half years with me in the drivers seat. At 267, the trans went, 289k rear went, 300+ motor was still getting 24-25 MPG highway, Purred like a new motor at a stop light and would haul **** even with dual rail mounted boxes and a 700 lbs split hydraulic cylinder/piston assembly in the back for an elevator. It did have a coolant fetish but otherwise the 5-6k oil changes never hurt the motor at all.

I was raised as a Diesel mechanics son to change the Dino at 3000-3500, which i always did. Mobil-1 i believe states every 10K... i figure since i'm paying twice what Dino costs for Synthetic i'll run it twice as long to 6-7000.
My best friend has a 94 YJ that he bought new, has ~300K miles now. Never an issue with the motors internals other than the typical lifter tap.
YMMV..
