I run Mobil Clean 5000. I usually change it between 4-5k. My 4.0 is a baby though, a little under 71,900 miles.

I was told by a mechanic that I trust that Honda and Toyota used to have rediculosly long oil change intervals, then started getting a lot of engine waranty claims. They then reduced the intervals.

I go 3-5,000 on Mobil 1 and use good filters like NAPA Gold or Wix with every change. Stay away from Fram.

My 94 was like that untill i had time to seal her back up... The oil filter adapter, rear main seal, valve cover gasket and oil pan all decided to start leaking at about the same time. She has 299k on her at the moment and runs beautifully... Now she gets her oil changed every 4k or so with 5w-30 Valvoline.
By the way, I still beat on this jeep every now and then. ( I gotta clean out the "exhaust deposits" haha) Have owned it since 65k so most of the miles are MINE. s

keep in mind the same cars as sold here with a 3k mile oil change interval are sold in Europe recommend a 7.5k interval, sometimes up to 15k, the only reason is to get you back into the service bay as many times as possible and it has been this way for the last 30 years

I agree with you, but the 7.5k or 15k...I'm assuming is in Kilometers not Miles. 7.5k kilometers is pretty close to 5k miles.

Wait! We're supposed to change the oil?
JK - every 3.5 to 4.5 thousand miles here. With leakage and topping it off about half way through it runs pretty good.

I liked the idea another poster had of just changing the filter @ 3000 & then oil & filter @6000. Makes sense the oil is designed to last that long & by 3000 the filter is full of crap.

Quick Reply: Can I run it longer than 3,000 miles??
