can my xj tow my mj to the dunes
i have a 99 cherokee sport automatic 4wd.. will it be safe to pull my 89 comanche from salt lake to the dunes on a flatbed?
the mj has 8 in lift on 35s and jeep axles will this be ok. the route i plan on taking through tooele only has two hills that arent too bad but im sure they willl slow me down
any info will be very appreciated i gotta find a solution within 2 weeks for easter...if my damn cummins wasnt broke i wouldnt have a problem

I'm guessing no. The tow rating of a Cherokee is 5000 pounds with a towing package. If you don't have the tow package or a trans cooler the limit is 3500 pounds. I'm figuring your mj and a flatbed weigh more than that.

I wouldn't try it really. The XJ is a uni-body, not the best for towing large loads. How did your Cummins break? Is that even possible? Did it explode from the laughter at seeing a Powerstroke?

3 diesels were playing in a mud hole. A durafail went in, got stuck, and failed. A powerchoke went in, choked on the mud, and got stuck. A cummins kept comin and goin until it pulled the other two out and a few miles down the road to their rightful place, the scrapyard.

Dodge.....Destruct On Demand, Go Easy. LOL Reasonably sure that load will exceed the XJs rating, not many have the tow pkg....can't imagine towing more than 2K without trailer brakes.

The flexplate is what broke.. so it wasn't actually the cummins that broke... guess I'm going to be fixing it before easter also gotta do ball joints .. so its the dodge that's broke not the cummins

I realize there are alot of people thats gonna bash me for this but i could care less. Used my xj to tow a chevy 1500 on a flatbed. Towing it is no problem, yeas its not recommended but i did it anyways, stopping is the problem. I do have a tranny cooler and im sure it helped. You better begin to stop WAY before you normally would though!! And dont speed as if someone were to pull out in front of you you would never stop in time. And i installed helper springs before hand...

I pulled an f 350 dually about 10 miles with my old 94 sport stoping was scary but had to get that pos back to the shop. Still i wouldn't recomend towing that much weight that far. Fix the cummins get a bigger trailer and take both jeeps lol.
